Len Biddlecombe, our green and pleasant land

Len Biddlecombe, writer and poet – from his book ‘Love of Life’

Why do people go abroad?
I’ll never understand.
There’s beauty all around us
In our green and pleasant land.

The sunrise in the morning
That creeps across the sky
To brighten every corner
As the darkness waves goodbye

That host of tiny creatures
All scampering for home
Until the night-time brings again
Another chance to roam.

Birds all awakening
Face another day,
Meadows bright and shining
Where a thousand creatures play

A babbling brook goes winding by
The breeze flirts with the trees
Where can one find beauty,
That can compare with these?
